In the 1800s, Hans Hempler worked in the family sausage kitchen in Borken, Germany. Serving as an apprentice sausage maker, he learned first-hand the family's time-tested secret recipes. When Hans came to the United States in 1928, he worked hard and saved his money in order to return to Germany and take a bride. The young married couple chose to make their life in Bellingham, Washington where they bought a small meat and sausage company in 1934.

In order to live up to Hans Hempler's original vision, Hempler's Food Group strives to produce and distribute the highest quality products in the Northwest, by purchasing high quality ingredients, and by employing excellent people and training them well.

Today, Hempler's Food Group is based in Ferndale, Washington, and continues to produce a variety of high quality hams, bacon and sausage. While we are particularly proud of our line of no-nitrite products (which uses Naturally Grown Oregon Country Beef™), we are well-known for our award-winning bacon, hams, and fresh and smoked sausage.
